Cloprop,C9H9ClO3 ((RS)-2-(3-chlorophenoxy)propionic acid), is a plant growth regulator. It is also a herbicide(phenoxypropionic clas). Cloprop, a clourless crystalline substance, is soluble in water,acetone,dimethyl sulfoxide,ethanol,methanol, iso-octanol,benzene,toluene,diethylene glycol,dimethyl formamide and dioxane,and is highly stable. It is produced by the reaction of sodium m-chlorophenolate in absolute ethatnol with ethyl bromo-propionate,followed by hydrolysis of the ester of the corres-ponding acid. The CAS registry Number of cloprop is 101-10-0.

As a growth reulator, cloprop is absorbed by the foliage but is not realily translocated. It is used on fruits like peaches,pineapples(reduces crown growth) and plums(fruit thinning). It also delay fruit ripening and increases the size of fruit.
Cloprop is formulated as a soluable concentrate(SL). It is available in the market under trade name like Fruitone,Swellpine and Fruitone CPA. A common application dose is 80g/l.
According to the EPA,cloprop is a slightly toxic chemical.
